2001 Education VacationOur convention days are just before the Labor Day weekend so that you can attend one of the greatest conventions and trade shows in the industry, and also provide time for yourself to take a mini vacation at the same time.
Once a year, the CFI pulls together all the great talent in the industry to provide a learning experience that will propel your business to even greater success. The reason I say "to even greater success" is simple: Only successful companies, or companies that have a great desire to become successful, attend conventions and trade shows. With all the conventions I have attended, or have had the honor of organizing, this is the one fact that holds true.
For three days, you get the chance to hear from industry experts and find out first-hand what the manufactures have to offer at the trade show for the coming year. Take advantage of special vendor offers, compare products and services, or feel and touch a working machine in the outside demonstration area. We also have an auction where you bid on products and services from trade show exhibitors, which is a great savings to you. Lisa Wagner has put together a program for this year's convention that you won't want to miss.
CFI's seminars and breakout sessions are conducted by industry leaders. Our experts, who have given more of their time to our industry than to their own business, want to share their experience and knowledge with you. Because of their dedication to the industry, we are able to keep the cost of the convention and trade show low. If you are a company that feels convention and trade show costs are high, then chances are that you also can't pay your bills and think the only way to compete in this industry is by charging less for your services. Instead of competing for business by using quality products, providing superior service to your customers and running a business like a business, you charge less than everyone else so you can stay busy. Attending the CFI convention will give you the chance to meet others and learn what it takes to be a success. Here's your chance to meet industry leaders and learn what it means to have a successful company. Jim Henry, one of our greatest leaders, once told me that to be successful you must have integrity, and you must be honest with yourself.
It's not too late to register and attend. Log on to CFI's website at www.carpet9.org to see the convention program. Here's your chance to move your company forward in this new century.
I look forward to seeing you there!
Is California Still the Land of Dreams?By John Fuchs, CFI Immediate Past President and Chairman of the Board
Growing up in Minnesota in the '70s, my friends and I always imagined moving out to California, the sunshine state and the land of opportunities. What do we have today? High fuel prices, labor shortages, and power outages. Not the brightest picture is it? Will I give up on the state I only dreamed of? No! I still see opportunities everyday.
I have met the most sincere and wonderful people in California. Most of these people have been involved in CFI or the industry I chose for my career. Do we really think California will not survive? Of course it will, only to become stronger. I was always told California is the window to the future. What happens in California only starts the snowball effect for the rest of the country.
Look at the CFI, now in its 50th year: People with different visions, but with similar goals, helping others find the golden dream. You can share in the dream during CFI's annual convention in San Diego. The work, planning, and many hours of brainstorming for this event would stagger most people's imagination. True sweat is poured into an event that promises to be one of the nation's best trade show and educational seminar. To this day, I've never left a CFI event where I didn't take away more than what I had arrived with. I hear people talk about the camaraderie, the classes and the programs, but the real magic is the spirit of being around the same kind of souls we are: Entrepreneurs, self-starters, true California people that call this place home.
Although many of us are from different parts of the country, or even the world, we are the same when it comes to the drive to better ourselves. California might have its ups and downs, but I wouldn't trade it or you, my fellow cleaners and flooring people for the world. See you in San Diego!
