Running for a cure in San Diego
July 14, 2006
"Cleaning Up Cancer" was the theme for the cleaning and restoration industry's team of runners and walkers participating in the Rock ‘n' Roll Marathon, June 4 in San Diego.
More than 20,000 people participated in the event, with more than 4,000 Team In Training participants running and walking their way to an amazing $12.5 million (net) for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. An astounding $109.6 million (net) has been raised in the past nine years at the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon. Inspirational leader Barry Costa led the charge as he, ICS magazine publisher Evan Kessler, BNP division publisher Tim Fausch, Neil Atkinson, Tom Hill, and Steam Way distributors Garry Moyer and Eddie Burgess all went the 26.2-mile distance. Heidi Hill will represent this team in San Francisco in October.
Sadly, scheduled participants Lisa Wagner and Rick Love both trained hard but suffered injuries prior to the race, forcing them to withdraw.
