For the fifth consecutive year, ICS Cleaning Specialist looks at some of the innovative equipment and technologies making its way into the industry.
Professional cleaning and restoration technicians are always searching for equipment and technology to help them do their jobs better and more efficiently. For the fifth consecutive year, ICS Cleaning Specialist
looks at some of the innovative equipment and technologies making its way into the industry.
Now keep in mind, this is not a “Best of the Best” list; it is a chance to see and read about some of the equipment making its way to the marketplace.
Principles and long-accepted methodologies need not be shattered in order for something to be innovative. Some may have already seen some of this technology at various trade shows and exhibitions, while others are getting their first look at what the cleaning and restoration industries have to say about some of the latest developments as we head into 2008.
RugRevolution by RugBadger
Harnessing the power of centrifugal force, the RugRevolution centrifuge wringer was designed entirely from the ground up.
The proprietary design of the RugRevolution’s main bearing ensures stresses are absorbed and prevent the damage “off the shelf” bearings were never designed to withstand. The heavy mass of the main bearing is designed to allow the RugRevolution to “easily and safely run at over 1,300 rpm and generate more than 36,000 lbs of radial force,” the company said.
With the internal spraying system, you can keep adding water into the centrifuge drum until the water coming through the transparent pipe underneath goes from dirty to clear.
Once it’s clear, the rug is completely rinsed clean.
BIOSWEEP by Phocatox
The Phocatox BIOSWEEP 700 Series is a high-performance air and surface decontamination system designed to safely eradicate bio-contaminants, VOCs and off-gassing odors within any unoccupied zone or building.
The BIOSWEEP produces extremely high levels of vapor-phase hydrogen peroxide and purified ozone. These two active exports are unsurpassed in field applications for their penetrating oxidative power to remove virtually any embedded or persistent odor, eliminating the need for deodorization or chemical fogging.
The BIOSWEEP is a low-temperature, residue-free, environmentally friendly process offering “excellent material compatibility (including sensitive electronics). Its portability provides maximum flexibility for a wide range of cleaning and restoration applications,” the company said.
The Hydro-Kinetic Upholstery Cleaning Tool by Steam Way
The “Hydro” principle allows you to use a higher solution pressure and a more-effective vacuum pressure to achieve maximum cleaning without the fear of over-wetting.
The “Hydro” principle is powerfully soft on fabrics because the angle of the spray in relation to the fabric produces a greater shear factor to remove soil from the fabric; the open port air flow chamber allows a full kinetic force of cleaning solution over the surface of the fabric, not through it, and the open port vacuum system removes the soil and cleaning solution prior to the final vacuum suction.
The Hydro-Kinetic Upholstery Cleaning Tool is available ready-to-use with a 10 foot mini-head adapter system, or available separately if you already have a mini-head adapter.
IR-Fusion Technology by Fluke
IR-Fusion Technology captures a visible light image in addition to the infrared image and takes the mystery out of IR image analysis. It helps to better identify and report suspect components and enable the repair to be done right the first time.
IR-Fusion technology simultaneously captures pixel-for-pixel infrared and visible light images and allows full image optimization with 5 different on-camera as well as software viewing modes. All FT models of the Fluke IR FlexCam Thermal Imagers feature this unique technology (the Fluke 140FT only supports Picture-in-Picture mode).
The real power behind IR-Fusion is the SmartView software. Capture and annotate hundreds of corresponding visible and infrared images in the field and quickly import them into the SmartView suite. SmartView’s comprehensive reporting tools are fully customizable.
The Evolution by U.S. Products
The Evolution carpet wand from U.S. Products was designed by understanding the theory of airflow. Air flows from a region of high pressure to one of low pressure. When airflows at higher velocities, especially through an airway with irregular walls, flow is generally disorganized, even chaotic, and tends to form eddies. This is called turbulent flow. A relatively large driving pressure is required to sustain turbulent flow. To double the flow rate when you have turbulent flow, you must quadruple the driving pressure.
When flow is low velocity and through narrow tubes, it tends to be more orderly and streamlined and to flow in a straight line. This type of flow is called laminar flow. The Evolution is the first and the only rotationally molded carpet wand on the market that utilizes the benefits of laminar airflow. Unlike turbulent flow, to double the flow rate with laminar flow, one need only double the driving pressure.
Clears 45 by Viking
The 45 GPM, Continuous Liquid Emptying And Removal System, “Clears 45” is “the most revolutionary technology in the industry today,” the company said. It’s patent-pending design and performance” is beyond what you have ever seen in the restoration field,” with many new features, including:
- One touch, always on 110 VAC operation.
- 200-CFM dual 3-stage vacuum motors.
- Full 1.5” through ports to increase material flow .
- Tough R/M construction.
- Muti-jet SS wand to finish rinse silt, sand, even pebbles with no pump to harm.
- 45 GPM with no pumps to clog or break down. mud, sand and pebbles pass right through it like water. That’s innovation.
Wide Track by Rotovac
The Rotovac Wide Track is a 24-inch wide rotary extraction tool designed for high-speed cleaning of large areas. Dual rotary jet extraction cleaning heads utilize six vacuum slots and six spray jets to produce thorough restorative cleaning. The cleaning heads spin at an adjustable 0 to 200 rpm. The Wide Track “operates like a lawn mower and cleans equally in both directions up and back,” the company said.
Designed for use with any truck mount or dual 3-stage vacuum portables, the Wide Track “delivers all the power of your extractor while requiring only one man to operate. The ergonomic dual handle design in combination with the high-torque-drive motors makes the Wide Track extremely easy to push as it power cleans through heavily soiled areas with ease,” according to Rotovac.
Chemstractor by Chemspec
The Chemstractor incorporates agitation with instant recovery and patent-pending features, which means that “you can now clean carpet with 54 percent less cleaning solution than conventional steam extraction methods and remove as much soil as the most efficient truck-mounted units with faster dry times,” the company said.
The self-contained rotary/extraction design and the low profile of the Chemstractor offers the ability to deep corrective clean, low-moisture clean, spray bonnet to maintain carpets and hard-surface scrubbing all in one machine.
The patent-pending 3-gallon solution tank places the cleaning solution inside the apron for a low center of gravity. All the weight of the cleaning solution is now on the base, improving brush and pad pressure and taking the weight of the solution off the lower back.
