Chicago, IL – December 21, 2009 - Forget flat-screen TVs and iPhones.

According to a survey conducted by AlturaSolutions Communications for Tornado Industries, facility service managers and providers as well as building service contractors have other items on their “Jansan Santa” wish list.

For instance, when asked if they want a brand-spanking-new carpet extractor, floor machine, or vacuum cleaner, the respondents were evenly divided between the extractor and the floor machine at 42 percent each. Seventeen percent responded that a new vacuum cleaner was at the top of their wish list.

Digging a bit deeper, the survey asked if the respondents had a choice of any type of floor machine, which would they select? An automatic scrubber topped the list at 42 percent. The other responses were these:
  • A standard buffer: 18 percent
  • A high-speed burnisher: 17 percent
  • A walk-behind machine: 25 percent
  • A ride-on machine: 8 percent
Similarly, when asked what type of vacuum cleaner the respondents wished for, having Santa drop off a new backpack received almost 60 percent of the votes. And surprising to some, a new industrial vacuum cleaner came in second at 33 percent.*

Another question wondered what type of carpet cleaning equipment they would like as a gift this Christmas. Again it was a bit of a surprise to find the respondents would like a multitasking machine that can clean both carpets and hard-surface floors (50 percent). The rest either wanted at truckmount extractor, 33 percent, or a portable extractor, 17 percent.

Finally, after surviving one of the toughest economic downturns in the country’s history, the respondents were asked what they wished for their businesses in 2010. Fifty percent said they hope the Jansan Santa would grant them “a more stable” business. Forty-two percent want their business to grow, while about 9 percent asked for a smaller business in 2010.

Methodology
Approximately 1,000 invitations were sent to facility managers and service providers/building service contractors on Friday, December 18, 2009. Invitations to take the survey were also posted on industry-specific message boards/blogs. As of December 21, 83 people had answered some or all questions on the survey. All responses were tabulated.

* Industrial vacuum cleaners may have wet/vac capabilities but are also designed for heavy-duty vacuuming in industrial or new-construction type locations.
