SPEEDWAY, Ind.--Ruth Travis of Chattanooga, Tenn., has been elected president of the International Society of Cleaning Technicians (ISCT) at a recent meeting of the board in St. Petersburg, Fla.
Travis, a 14-year ISCT member, has served as ISCT director, Membership Committee chairman, IICRC representative, and past president. She also has served on the Convention Planning Committee.
"The ISCT has been and continues to be a very important part of both my business and personal life. I have developed many close friends in the industry through the ISCT," Travis said. "Without the great support and knowledge gained from my membership in the ISCT, I know I wouldn't have been as successful in my business endeavors. I highly recommend all those in our industry join and get involved. Both you and your company will benefit."
Travis has attended most of the major cleaning, restoration, and inspection industry courses and is the first woman to attain all the IICRC certifications. With a bachelor's degree in textiles from the University of Tennessee--and the unique perspective of a small carpet cleaning business owner and carpet inspector--she has more than 17 years experience in maintenance and restoration of carpet, rugs, and upholstery. In addition, she is a laminate-, wood-, and vinyl-flooring inspector. A color repair expert, Travis has traveled the United States and abroad teaching carpet color correction to other cleaners and restorers.
Travis is an IICRC-certified Master Cleaning Technician, Master Restoration Technician, Senior Carpet Inspector, IICRC-approved Color Repair Instructor, and instructor for Chemical Technologies International. She is the past chairman of the IICRC's Color Repair Committee and currently serves as Long-Range Planning Committee and Marketing Committee chairman for the IICRC. She is one of the editors of the IICRC S-300 Upholstery Cleaning Standard and IICRC S-100 Carpet Cleaning Standard.
Travis operates a fabric care service in Chattanooga, Tennessee, just 40 miles from Dalton, Georgia, where she performs color correction services for her clients, interior designers, and carpet mills throughout the southeast.
