U.S. retail gasoline prices highest since June 2001

NEW YORK, Feb 12 (Reuters) - U.S. retail gasoline prices last week rose to their highest level since June 2001, the U.S. Energy Information Administration reported on Wednesday.

For the week ended Feb. 11, the average pump price for self-serve regular gasoline was $1.607 per gallon, the highest level since June 11, 2001.

The weekly increase of eight cents matches the highest recorded by the EIA, the statistical arm of the U.S. Department of Energy, since it started taking records in 1990.

Gasoline prices have risen 25 cents in the past nine weeks, the EIA said.
