VES honors its first graduates

NORTH CANTON, Ohio - Violand Executive Summit (VES), an executive development collaboration initiated in 2004 by Chuck Violand between his company Violand Management Associates and Kent State University Stark, recognized its first five graduates on June 20.
  • Orlando Harris, Service Professionals Inc., Oklahoma City, OK
  • Phyllis Harris, Service Professionals Inc., Oklahoma City, OK
  • Annette Marchionda, Professional Carpet Systems of Niagara, St. Catharines, ON, Canada
  • Kent Rawhouser; A & J Specialty Services, Inc.; DeForest, WI
  • James Tudor, Tudor Services, Valparaiso, IN

These recipients earned their Small Business Management diploma by completing five required courses and three electives variously offered at this annual educational event. During the graduation ceremony, Violand commended the five, saying, “You have demonstrated a commitment to management excellence by participating in the Executive Summit for four years and completing the coursework that will help you not only build your own companies, but also build a stronger industry.”

The VES curriculum is unique among corporate continuing education programs because it focuses on the management and leadership needs of small business owners and managers in the restoration and cleaning service industries. Graduates complete intensive business management courses with titles such as Developing a High Performance Organization, Managing Your Team to Peak Performance, Raging Profits/Fearless Numbers, Communication Skills for Maximum Impact, and Effectively Dealing with Conflict in the Workplace.

VES coursework is the only accredited, college-level curriculum offered for restorers and cleaners in the United States and Canada. It earns continuing education credits for professionals in these industries from their two leading international standards-setting and professional training organizations: the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC), as well as, the Restoration Industry Association (RIA).

This year VES hosted 93 attendees from 46 companies from across the nation and Canada ranging in size from $250,000 to over $10MM in annual sales. The event is held annually in the third week of June at Kent State University Stark’s Professional Education and Conference Center.
