For those who may not have heard, Robert “Bob” Wittkamp, well-known industry figure, ICS columnist and consummate cleaning professional, died June 13. He was 64 years old.

Bob was born Sept. 2, 1942 in Muskegon, Mich., moving to Florida about 20 years later. During the past month his numerous accomplishments and achievements have been held high for all to see, for everyone to realize the true impact the smiling, mustachioed man with a twinkle in his eye and a humble tone in his voice really had on their lives.

“Bob Wittkamp was a self-effacing, tireless supporter of and teacher to our industry. No stuffed shirt he. Bob mattered and will be fondly remembered.”

“There are truly people in this industry that you don’t know, but feel like you do know. There are people in life that you never meet, yet they have a profound effect upon you just by their reputation and the knowledge they share with you. Bob was such a man.”

“Bob has left others with fond memories as well as value. A legacy to be followed by all.”

Suffice it to say that the impression he made and the footprint he left through his work both in and out of the industry will not soon be forgotten.

What will always stick with me is the passion with which he worked to pass along his lifetime of knowledge to those just coming up in the industry. For him, “Carpet Cleaning Basics” was more than just a header for a column. Learn the basics of the business, the reasons why things work the way they do and how to maximize your efficiency when performing those operations, and you will have a foundation from which to grow. And even if you didn’t exactly “get” the lesson he was teaching in any given month, you didn’t have to worry because, at the end of every column, he let you know you weren’t out there on your own.

Until next month, see ya!

Bob was a friend. He will be missed, and he will be remembered.
