During my daily news search for anything carpet cleaning related this morning, I came across a headline from the San Gabriel Valley Tribune: “Man sentenced for attack on rival carpet cleaner.” How could I not click on it?

The story detailed a rivalry between two Los Angeles-area carpet cleaners gone bad – we’re talking attacking and carjacking – and the repercussions that followed. It’s an ugly reminder of how competition can drive us all over the edge sometimes, as well as a reminder on how to appropriately deal with competition in the carpet cleaning industry.

So while the cleaning business is most definitely a competitive one, why not consider an add-on service, some special promotion or creative marketing to get a leg up on your competition?
