Although there were pre-conference events earlier in the week, for all intents and purposes, The 2014 Experience Conference and Exhibition officially got underway here in Frisco, TX on Wednesday, April 23, with the welcome reception at Dr. Pepper Ballpark, where the Frisco RoughRiders took on the San Antonio Mission.
Thursday, April 24, began with education. In the first sessions, Dane Gregory, Interlink Supply, gave a hands-on demo on tile and grout cleaning, while Ivan Turner, ShowMe Marketing, presented attendees with ways to turn an average cleaning company into a “powerhouse.” John Mapes, My Flooring Warranty, and Rick Pereda and Ken Larson, DKI, had the next sessions, presenting on how referral relationships with flooring retailers can add to your bottom line and on restoration project management, respectively.
Prior to the keynote speeches, Larry Cooper, Meeting and Events, gave a brief update on the status of The Experience events. Of note:
- There’s approximately 38,000 square feet of exhibit space filled for this year’s Experience Conference and Exhibition.
- He says the fall Experience Convention and Trade Show, slated for September 3-5 at The Mirage Hotel and Casino, is going to be about 25% larger than past fall shows.
Following Cooper’s welcome address, Robert Tunmire, Rainbow International, gave the first keynote on the seven keys to recruiting people. Then Howard Partridge, Phenomenal Products (and an ICS columnist) did his thing, presenting on the late Zig Ziglar’s See You at the Top book.
From 4-7:30 p.m., we got our first look at the 38,000 square feet of exhibit space for the trade show portion, while also sitting in on the water damage restoration hands-on demos that Chuck Boutall, Rachel Adams, Frank Van Zant and Bruce DeLoatch were hosting at the flood house. Area rug demonstrations, carpet and upholstery cleaning and tile and concrete cleaning demos were also taking place on the show floor.
From what I could tell, exhibitors seemed happy with the day 1 turnout and with some new faces that they saw thanks to this year’s new location in Frisco, Texas.
Stay tuned for a Day 2 recap coming up tomorrow.
